Duo Oltheten Gomide

The Duo Oltheten Gomide was formed in 2013, while Daphne Oltheten (violin) and Henrique Gomide (piano) were studying at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague (Netherlands). The Sonata for Violin and Piano Claude Debussy – the last piece written by the French composer - served as inspiration for them to start a project. Their immediate affinity and similar musical ideas led them to quickly incorporate several Sonatas into their repertoire.

The duo has performed in important concert halls and festivals in the Netherlands, Brazil and Germany and released two CD’s. The first CD of the duo has Violin-Sonatas by Mozart, Schubert and Grieg. In 2019, they released their second CD, entitled 'Diálogo' (A Casa Discos). It features short pieces by contemporary Brazilian Composers, contrasted by two monumental Sonatas by Beethoven and Brahms.

Diálogo (2019)  | Review by Cristiano Alves

Maturity and youth, talent and dedication. These attributes, which characterise the Duo Oltheten Gomide, translate some of its rich artistic base. Originating from families of musicians, they forge their own paths, ranging from baroque music to jazz and chamber music. Their camerisitic verve is as solid as their musical training, causing the Duo’s identity to pulsate between works of varied styles. Oltheten and Gomide demonstrate all of their technical and artistic qualities in this beautiful work that is undoubtedly among the best releases in the chamber music scene of the past few years. It includes an inspired composition by Gomide, interspersed by the works of two exponents of Brazilian music: Ernani Aguiar and Almeida Prado. With contrasting styles, the four excellent Brazilian works dialogue in perfect harmony with two monuments in the literature for violin and piano, written by two of the greatest composers of all time: Beethoven and Brahms.
